Homily
Today
is a joyful day as we celebrate the Feast of the Annunciation. The Angel
Gabriel brought the greatest of news to Our Blessed Lady - that she was chosen
to be the Mother of the Saviour of the world. We all need Good News: this is
true especially for us now at this time of the coronavirus pandemic when many
are anxious.
Because
of Our Lady's "yes" to Saint Gabriel, the Good News is, as Isaiah
prophesied, that God-is with-us. He is one with us, he shares our humanity, our
fears, our joys, our anxieties, and our hopes. Our God is not a distant, removed
God but One who took flesh in the womb of the Virgin Mary. Today we rejoice in
the Good News of the Incarnation: that Jesus is Emmanuel, God-with-us.
